Founded in 2018, the Black Femme Supremacy Film Fest (BFSFF) aims to raise visibility around the lack of representation of black femme filmmakers in the film industry. It was intentionally created by and for black femmes and seeks to re-envision the black femme as a universal archetype and global protagonist through the medium of film. By deliberately centering black femmes we have created an intentional community for audiences and filmmakers alike, which affirms and celebrates black women, gender non-conforming and trans people from diverse nationalities and ethnicities. Our festival screens films by and for self-identified black femmes, which would traditionally and historically have had a harder time being distributed due to the often sexist, racist, and classist gaze of the film industry.
