About

Kevin V. Smith and Daiva Bhandari founded Blue in the Right Way in 2019. Presenting radical storytelling as visual art is what sets Blue in the Right Way apart in the Chicago theatre scene. The company's debut work, a queer deconstruction of the Renaissance tragedy Women Beware Women, engaged a team of 45 artists and premiered at The Edge Theater in Chicago in 2024.

Blue in the Right Way's second production will be a radical reimagining of Max Shulman and Robert Paul Smith’s 1954 comedy THE TENDER TRAP, premiering on July 3, 2025 at The Edge Off-Broadway Theater in Chicago. Our revival challenges the text's romantic perspective to examine the haunting legacy of the rigid social constructs of mid-century America, creating a startling work of visual performance art from an iconic piece of comedic American pop culture.
