A Chicago-based theatrical production company making provocative, stylized theatre as visual art
You're Blue: $21K in $21 Days
With your support, Blue in the Right Way will make a successful international launch with a debut production in France, expanding on our mission to create provocative, stylized theatre as visual art.
Blue in the Right Way is raising $21,000 to break ground on an international collaboration project, making our mark in the European theatre scene and establishing us as an intercontinental production company with a second home base in France. Your continued support makes this next step possible.
YOU’RE BLUE
Blue in the Right Way exists because of you. You are our supporters, our champions — the established patrons of the company. The donations we received from you made up 70% of the combined budgets of our last two shows.
Over the years, you’ve invested in us and seen what our hard work and tenacity bring. We asked you to believe in us, and we followed through by creating two unprecedented works of art.
In April of 2024, we mounted our debut work, a queer feminist adaptation of Thomas Middleton's 1621 revenge tragedy with a $66,000 budget, engaging a 45 person team.
Our second production, a radical reimagining of Shulman and Smith’s 1954 comedy, premiered in July of 2025. With a $63,000 budget, this sold-out run engaged a 30 person team.
OUR BLUE FRONTIER
When we founded Blue in the Right Way in 2019, we knew we wanted to imagine the company differently from a typical American theatre model. As we researched theatre ecosystems in Europe, the French system stood out — a robust network of national theaters that collaborate, share resources, and help build and tour new work. That was the horizon we set for ourselves, and now we are making it real.
Since relocating to France last summer, Kevin has been building relationships with artistic directors, programmers, administrators, and fellow theatre artists, opening new possibilities for Blue in the Right Way’s next chapter. After the success of our first two full-scale productions in Chicago, with a new show now in development and with Kevin positioned in France, the time is ripe for the company’s international launch.
OUR UPCOMING CREATION: SAMIA
Samia (La Samienne) is Blue in the Right Way’s next original stage work: a feminist reworking of Menander’s ancient Greek marriage comedy. In our version, the surviving fragments of the ancient text are flooded and transformed by contemporary female and queer voices, exposing the violence beneath the comedic surface. Created with an international team of visual and sound artists and new music by acclaimed Cypriot composer Andys Skordis, Samia will be a bold, choral, visually striking performance work developed in France for a 2027/28 premiere and followed by an international tour.

Samia will be realized over the next year and a half through a series of artistic residencies. Our first virtual residency with the core design team, which took place between March 10 and April 21, 2026, is complete. Next, we are planning the essential first in-person residency — the catalyst that will set everything in motion to secure regional residencies, partners, and co-producers.

$21,000 covers our 2026 expenses: travel, housing, and stipends for our first in-person residency for Samia, plus the operating costs of structuring the company internationally — attending festivals, meetings, and building partnerships. Your generosity makes it all possible.
This year, we've outlined five levels of giving in five shades of blue. No contribution is too small or too big, and every tax-deductible dollar goes toward this next ambitious leap. Let's make it happen.
