NASIMA is more than an award-winning documentary — it's the heartbeat of a global movement.
At its center is Nasima Akter, the first female surfer in Bangladesh, who has challenged deep-seated cultural norms simply by following her dream to ride the waves. This film captures her fearless journey, offering a rare and intimate portrait of a young woman rising up against all odds — in a country where women are not even allowed to swim in public.
The global release of NASIMA is dedicated to supporting community screenings around the world and to help Nasima in founding the first-ever surf club for girls in Bangladesh. This campaign invites viewers not only to watch her story but to participate in changing the lives of girls around the world who, like Nasima, dare to dream.
Accompanying the film is a genre-blending, Hamilton-style mixtape by Brooklyn Shanti. His full album, highlighting new female Bengali talent and inspired by the film, will drop in tandem with the film’s release.
