Bucharest Inside the Beltway (BiB) is a local and international culture and arts organization based in Denver, Colorado: Art created by Denver inspired by the fearlessness of Bucharest. In December 2013 BiB was born in Washington DC. BiB was officially launched at the Romanian Embassy to the United States June 2014 and then launched in Romania in Carol 53 October of 2014. Since then BiB has produced sold-out shows in the Capital Fringe Festival, DC Black Theatre Festival and the Source Theatre, hosted Romanian dancer Paul Cimpoieru at the Goethe Institute and has organized a spoken word poetry evening at Carol 53 in Bucharest. BiB launched in Denver, Colorado on December 10, 2021 with the international RADIANCE new play showcase, generated out of the competitive virtual playwrights residency led by award-winning Romanian-Filipina-American playwright Amanda L. Andrei (MFA USC), and looks forward to working with local artists and the Romanian community to once again "bring the fearlessness of Bucharest" to the United States of America. Cristina A. Bejan serves as BiB Artistic Director (Denver) and Rucsandra as BiB Artistic Director (Bucharest). Since moving to Denver, BiB has had professional collaborations with the Romanian Cultural Institute of New York, Wheatridge Theatre Company, and Theater29 Denver, in addition to working with local and international artists on a daily basis. HISTORY: When studying at the University of Bucharest on a Fulbright, Cristina Bejan met Rucsandra Pop, who was organizing a literary festival in a hip new cafe in Bucharest's historic Geology Museum. Pop invited Bejan to contribute a live-reading of her play "Colombo Calling - a play from Sri Lanka" which featured actors from across Bucharest's eclectic and diverse theatre world, including the world famous Maia Morgenstern. Then Pop won a Fulbright to study at the University of Indiana. These two playwrights and poets have been scheming about just such an international and local culture and arts collective since their initial collaboration in 2008. Think the Fulbright Association meets the pre-2012 incarnation of the Romanian Culture Institute and you have Bucharest Inside the Beltway..
