Bungo is the short story of a hermit who lives in a cottage at the edge of the woods, longing to join the outside world but held back by his own fear and anxiety. To cope, he stays inside and makes dolls. Specifically, he makes dolls that look like the people who pass by his window on their way to a nearby field where they gather to dance. He wants so desperately to dance with them.... but it is not until he goes to bed at night and dreams of starring in a full-production dance number that he can work up the confidence to take the chance.
Bungo aims to destigmatize anxiety disorder and to cast a beautiful light on the journey to overcome it. Bungo is the anxious artist, and the dancers represent everything he wants from the world: beauty, acceptance, self expression. In the end, anxiety is never fully conquered, but finding acceptance for oneself regardless is important and beautiful. Reality has to be what you make of it, and confidence starts from within.
Bungo will be filmed in LA and publicly screened at local theaters in LA and Chicago, and employ a small but mighty group of filmmakers, artists and dancers.
