About

Based in NYC, Caitlin Adams is a choreographer, director, and artist. She is also a producer, performer, writer, and professional consulting astrologer. She makes worlds – installation, film, and performance.

Adams' is a dancer first – her work centers choreography, embodied practice, and dance, emphasizing an expansive commitment to improvisation, collaboration, and community. She cultivates, empowers and subverts individual experience within collective ecosystems. Caitlin’s process values the convergence of humor and seriousness, centering generative possibility and inclusivity.

Adams has worked with artists in nearly every medium realizing large scale performances, films, fashion shows, theater productions, and immersive experiences. Her work as a director and producer has been seen at Documenta15, New York Fashion Week FW 2022 (Vogueworld), Guggenheim Museum, Phish Mondegreen Festival, and Format Festival/Jacolby Satterwhite to name a few.  Her work has been commissioned by Prospect 4/New Orleans Art Biennial and NYC Poetry Festival & presented at Gibney Dance NYC, Triskelion Arts, REDCAT, Human Resources LA, Bates Dance Festival, Highways Performance Space, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

She engages healing, consciousness, and how memory/history is stored in the body—further unpacked in her June 2020 BOMB Magazine interview. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance, with a minor in Creative Writing from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

Caitlin’s life is guided by an intuitive urge to create with more artists, in more places. Early in her career, Caitlin developed Dynasty Center – a DiY space, venue, rehearsal studio, and communal loft – across the street from the historic market named Dynasty Center in Chinatown, Downtown Los Angeles. After a statewide hunt for DiY Spaces, DC closed in 2017 and Caitlin relocated to New York City, where she founded her NYC-based dance company, HEIDCO, which operated from 2018 to 2021. HEIDCO functioned from an experimental company approach that dedicated their weekly rehearsal schedule to exploring methods for democratizing studio practice, emphasizing collaborative authorship, shared leadership structures, and equitable creative decision-making.

Caitlin is currently fundraising for two durational works – ASSEMBLY and SUBLIMINAL TABLE. ASSEMBLY will occur on June 26 at Center for Performance Research (Greenpoint, Brooklyn) – SUBLIMINAL TABLE will occur on June 28 at Green Lung Studio (Red Hook, Brooklyn).
