Candice Salyers is a solo performer and choreographer whose work stems from a desire to inspire care about human being and to expand imaginings of what is possible for human becoming. Her solo performance work has been shown in the U.S., U.K., Estonia, and the Czech Republic. Her work has been supported and presented by choreographic residencies and theaters including Redfern Arts Center, Vermont Performance Lab, Ko Festival of Performance, Bates Dance Festival, Arte & Ecologia (Spain), ACSL (Armenia), and Green Olive Arts (Morocco). She was one of 10 US artists selected to participate in an international exchange between National Dance Project (US) and Culture Ireland (IE). She has been a visiting artist and fac- ulty member at Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, and Keene State College. Candice spent many years working as a teaching artist for Ballet Memphis, the Memphis Arts Council, and Camp Steady, an arts program for homeless children. Inspired by these experiences, she founded an organization of artists interested in using their art forms in service to the community for which she won the Alma Bucovaz Award for Urban Service. Her Ph.D. work explored intersections of dance performance, feminist theories, and environmental philosophy, and she also holds an MFA and an MDiv. Her current solo performance project explores different physical and conceptual perspectives on female sainthood and includes dances created for both landscape and stage spa- ces. Candice was awarded a 2016 Choreographic Fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and a 2017 Postdoctoral Fellowship from the American Association of University Women. She was recently one of the first dancers ever invited to speak at the Society for European Philosophy, and her publications include contributions to Tanz, Bewegung, und Spiritualität, The Journal of Environmental Philosophy, and the Journal of Performance and Mindfulness.
