CASSANDRA depicts the acquisition of a women-led talent agency by its parent company and the interpersonal turmoil that ensues. Inspired by Euripides’ The Trojan Women, CASSANDRA is a “satyr play”— musing on New York as a Trojan symbol coping with the weight of impending disaster. Using an avant-garde talent agency as an analogy for a kingdom, the play will consider the persistent value that contemporary American culture places on beauty, individualism, and self-promotion.
CASSANDRA is an evening length ensemble play written, directed and choreographed by Susannah Yugler. It will be performed in a private loft / dance studio in May 2024 in Queens, again at a Manhattan theater in Fall 2024 (TBA), and at The Exponential Festival in January 2025 in NYC. We are fundraising for artist fees to pay the dancers / ensemble, the musician and sound designer, the costume designer and additional personnel / material and labor costs.
