Brief Project Description:
This project encompasses the premier commercial recording, global distribution, and permanent archival documentation of Sun-Sundered Head (2026)—a major new 25-minute cello concerto by British composer Laurence Osborn—paired alongside the Elgar Cello Concerto, a canonical masterpiece of the cello repertoire. The project features cellist Zlatomir Fung as featured soloist, collaborating with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Music Director Vasily Petrenko.
Artistic Objectives & Public Access:
By pairing a major 21st-century premiere with one of the most celebrated works in the classical cannon, the project expands the modern cello repertoire while ensuring broad international audience engagement. All charitable funding sought for this project is strictly allocated to direct operational recording costs at Henry Wood Hall in London, including orchestra hiring fees, venue rental, conductor fees, audio engineering, post-production mastering, and global distribution. Zlatomir Fung will fully waive all personal performance fees to maximize operational resources.
Following its world premiere at Cadogan Hall on October 21, 2026, the work will be recorded on October 26–27, 2026. The primary goal is global distribution across commercial physical media (CD/vinyl) and major digital streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music) via a major classical label. If a label deal is not secured, Zlatomir Fung Creative LLC is fully committed to self-distributing the recording to ensure permanent public access. Ultimately, this project creates a lasting educational and cultural resource for students, musicologists, and classical music audiences worldwide.
