The project consists in the production of artworks and a monograph publication around the subject of collective intelligence - a phenomenon where novel forms such as superorganisms emerge in a non-linear and unpredictable ways out of interactions between thousands or millions of elements in a complex system.
Drawing parallels between the crystallization and emergence of forms in biological, social, geological and digital systems I investigate alternative pathways of evolution of societies and the potential we all carry within ourselves to influence change. I am exploring general morphogenesis: the emergence of forms in various systems. For me, a mineral crystalizes much like a sign, a language, a fiction, or a revolution.
I developed a novel way of producing artworks, based on crowdsourcing to thousands of human and non-human agents. I create unstable, evolving forms or grow artworks like geological formations. Collaborating with biologists and computer scientist I outsource my sculptures to termite colonies, bacteria, social movements and online ghost workers. Using experimental materials, tools and processes: liquid crystals, thermochromic pigments, genetically mutated organisms, Artificial Intelligence, levitation or synthetic fossils, I explore the evolution of societies and nature in response to technology.
Some of my works undergo perpetual plasticity and mutation, physically reacting to changes happening in society and investigating the impact of digital footprints made by millions of people around the globe on physical changes and mutations of matter.
My project consists in producing a series of new works employing collective intelligence as well as a monograph book publication which will be published by Sternberg Press / MIT Press.
My works will be exhibited at several European and US institutions including the Pompidou Center, Hannover Kunstverein, Mudam Luxemburg, Carmignac Foundation, CAPC Bordeaux, Gamec Bergamo, Luisiana Museum of Art, Denmark et al.
My monograph Collective Intelligence will be distributed by MIT Press worldwide.
