In the play YSIA, aging members of a semi-famous Chicago-based rock band that broke up in the '80's want to relive the past but are thrown into chaos when Ysia, the granddaughter of a deceased member, joins the group and propels it to stardom. Generations clash, old secrets are revealed, and the group must figure out how to work together to survive their newfound fame. The full-lengt play chronicles the band's reunion, recording sessions, creative differences, and is followed by a half-hour concert of music the band has created during the course of the play.
The concert reading of YSIA will feature a diverse, intergenerational cast of actor/musicians who are well versed in the world of rock bands. The actors will use scripts and the band will play live instruments. The performances on October 17 & 18 2025 will be held in the historic Fine Arts Building's Little Studio Theatre. Admission will be free and each performance will be followed by a talk-back session.
Curtis Edwin Powell, the composer, playwright and producer of YSIA is collaboration with director/dramaturg Josh Leeper of A Short Leap Theatre to provide the audience with a moving and entertaining experience that will help in the development of the play and build its audience for future full productions.
