Grounded in our values of community, emergence, and justice, Mi Casita Preschool has long offered deeply loving, Spanish immersion for kids ages 2-4. Going into 2023, we are extending our human-centered, arts-based Spanish programming to the whole community, no matter the age. Mi Casita Centro Cultural supports artists (visual, dance, theater, print, etc.) with a space to create and teach as well as a space to present while supporting the the surrounding community with 'pay what you can' programming.
Right now we are in the buildout phase of our Centro Cultural. In the meantime we will host programming at our school site next door. A home where artists, community, and teachers come together to think about el collectivo. El Centro La Grande- An open 700 sq ft space, with 16 ft ceilings, this space will house classes, community gatherings, gallery events, and performances. La Chiquita- This room will provide a creative environment for "round table" classes and gatherings. La Salita (Therapy Room)- The "living room" is outfitted with cozy chairs and sound baffled walls where therapists from different disciplines can meet with families.
Public Benefit Our audience is primarily focused on the community surrounding Mi Casita in Bed Stuy. Our community also includes those interested in our approach from wherever they may be.
The Cultural Center is designed to host all sorts of performances and exhibitions. For example early 2023 we are hosting a Tablao Flamenco, a Red Carpet Premier of the films that kids will be producing, a showcase of the ukulele songs written by children, an art exhibit with this years Artista in Residence, among many more community generated ideas.
As well as exhibition and public performances, we will also offer space to emergent artists, cultural programs, community development focused on and centering the underrepresented.
