With Copy That Dance, you will find no mystery. Our movement comes from human habits and urges, interest in patterns, and natural need to groove. I, Phoebe Rose Sandford, founded this company in 2016, and I strive to create straightforward, non-elegant movement, occasionally peeling away virtuosity in exchange for stark bursts of energy. I received my BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, dancing in works by notable choreographers such as Trisha Brown, Benoit-Swan Pouffer, Deborah Jowitt, and Gus Solomons Jr. I was a founding member of RedCurrant Collective, and in addition to co-managing, dancing, and choreographing for the collective, I have performed with Anne Zuerner, MoveWorks, Jonathan Matthews, Alice Gosti, The Charles Weidman Foundation, and AMS Project. I was the choreographer and co-director for A Presentation by the People of Lake Victory for Our Leader at The Gym at Judson and the choreographer for Loud Mouth with Rebel Playhouse. For Copy That Dance, I have presented work at Under Exposed (Dixon Place), WaxWorks (Triskelion Arts), 30-30-30 (Dixon Place), The Craft (Threes Brewing), Fertile Ground (Green Space), Swell (NYU’s Jack Crystal Theater, The Hours Festival (Beulahland), and Marie-Christine Giordano’s Artist’s Salon.
