A Brand New, Fully Realized Production

After a successful short run at the Robert Moss Theater as part of the Bridge Residency in 2017, CRASH Theater Co.'s whimsical, heartfelt Three Sisters adaptation returns to New York for a three-weekend run at Actors Access Theater. We are thrilled to welcome new cast members as well as returning performers. The ensemble's devised work promises a fresh experience of Chekhov's masterpiece like you've never seen it before, with new original scenes and music and further explorations and adaptations of the text.

We are also very excited to introduce a suite of designers to help us bring our vision to life.  This fully realized production of TaRaRaBOOM: A Three Sisters MishMash is the exciting next step in the two year developmental process that gave birth to CRASH as a company and TaRaRaBOOM as a show.  We hope you can join us on this bracing, yet spirited journey. TaRaRaBOOM: A Three Sisters MishMash

In CRASH Theater’s TaRaRaBOOM: A Three Sisters MishMash, Olga, Masha, and Irina are stuck. After the death of their father, they long to return to a time and place that exists only in their memory. Their world is populated with living ghosts and broken clocks, and love isn’t quite strong enough to save them. But what difference does it make? Nothing even matters, anyway...

An exploration of what makes life absurdly serious and seriously absurd, TaRaRaBOOM uses Chekhov’s text along with original scenes, music, and movement to explore the timeless themes of the classic play with a modern sensibility. TaRaRaBOOM is an explosive reworking of and playful homage to one of Chekhov’s best-loved works. SPOILER ALERT: The sisters still don’t make it to Moscow.

About Us

CRASH Theater Co. is an exciting new collective of theater artists founded on the principle that contemporary theater must reflect the diverse, multifaceted, interdisciplinary audience of today.  CRASH commits to having women in creative and executive roles, diverse backgrounds in all casts, and original, ensemble-devised elements in all productions. CRASH seeks to reinvigorate classic masterpieces by refracting them through a modern, actor-driven lens.  CRASH also strives to promote poetic, representative narratives in modern playwriting by performing new and recent works that break out of a naturalistic, "real-life" framework.  In these ways, CRASH seeks to move beyond a traditional theater audience and gain relevance in contemporary storytelling.

Fundraising

We are incredibly grateful to have received institutional support from A.R.T. NY and Access Theater.  A.R.T. NY has selected us for their Creative Space Grant, which helps underwrite the cost of our rehearsal space.  Access Theater has invited us to be a part of their Access Association series, a subsidized rental program curated by the staff.  We are also thankful to be sponsored once again by Calder Classics.

CRASH's community of support has been powerful and generous in our first two years of existence.  In our last round of fundraising, we had over 60+ individual contributors.  As our company and ambitions grow, we hope to continue to build and expand our network of support.  We will continue to focus on person to person relationship building while also connecting with institutions to seek larger grants.  Our goal for this round of fundraising is to have 100+ individual contributors.  We hope that you will continue to support us as we grow, and that you will engage with other like-minded individuals and connect them to our ever-growing community of audience and donors.

Our pre-crowdfunding campaign raised over $6,000, which allowed us to cover the costs of the theater rental.  All crowdfunding resources will be invested directly into the show, and will cover performer fees, designer fees, construction costs for set and costumes, public relations to expand our community of support, additional rehearsal space, marketing materials, photography, and videography.
