Creative Movement Practices was founded in 2021 to begin to challenge and change the culture of rehearsal rooms while creating dynamic and ground breaking productions. Creative Movement Practices has committed to facilitating an inspiring, transformative, and collaborative space for theatre makers to practice, hone, and establish their craft. We strive to create an environment where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, can contribute fully to the creation process, and have equal opportunities for growth and success.
At CMP we are dedicated to providing our actors with all the support needed for them to be successful in their roles. We provide on-site childcare for all actors, technicians, directors, stage managers, etc. and strive to provide support for any actor who shares their neuro-diverse or differently abled body needs. We hold all members of our production to a high standard of ethics in and out of the rehearsal room built on the foundation of respect and body autonomy. We believe that all actors have complete autonomy and consent over every process that happens in the rehearsal room and strive to create an equitable, collaborative space.
Our Founding Artistic Director, Sarah Sneesby, is a Director, Choreographer, Movement Director, and Theatrical Movement & Intimacy Practitioner with over 15 years of training and industry experience. She graduated from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2021 with distinction with a MFA in Movement: Direction and Teaching with a research emphasis on the use of embodied linguistics in rehearsal rooms. Her time in London took Sarah's backgrounds in theatre, dance, and choreography and began the process of transforming those separate skills into one of a movement specialist both for the classroom and rehearsal room.
During her time in graduate school, Sneesby reflected back on her time as a performer and noticed that her experiences with rehearsing a show were primarily that of unsustainable and unhealthy practices including lack of: individual cast equity, consent, and collaboration. CMP was birthed out of this time of reflection and a desire to promote healthy and sustainable change in the industry she so loves.
