Arts for the Culture presents: "Check the Pulse," an initiative to build genuine international relations between the vibrant communities of Baltimore and Kochi, India. It will be a profound educational journey for youth, educators, and artists alike. We want you to be a part of it!
Our delegation of artists and educators will travel to the prestigious Kochi-Muziris Biennale, a world-renowned festival that brings together art, culture, and dialogue from across the globe. We're carrying a delegation of Baltimore teaching/performing artists, with a multimedia offering created by our Baltimore youth, who will explore a few core themes:
Elements of Nature: How do we relate to the natural world around us?
Elements of Culture: What are the customs, traditions, and stories that define our communities?
Elements of Music: What are the sounds and rhythms that tell our story?
Through this project, our students are gaining crucial 21st-century skills. They are using technology to create videos and presentations, sharing facts about themselves, Baltimore and their community, and asking thoughtful questions to their peers in India.
The heart of this exchange is a collaborative song and music video, uniting the voices of youth from both cities to create an anthem of unity. Our delegation of Artists will travel to South India for the Kochi Biennale- an international arts and cultural festival. There they will represent Baltimore/USA, will perform, and go to a school to implement the project with Indian youth.

My name is Gino Hannah. I am a musician, educator, composer, producer, and curator based in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. I come from a family of musicians and educators, have traveled the world playing music, teaching, and building relations with communities in The Gambia, Mexico, Peru, India, Nepal, Ecuador, Italy, and across the United States. I've been working with youth in Baltimore for over a decade. 7 years as a full time music teacher, and more recently as an outdoor educator with a focus on whole-child, integrative nature connection. This included in-school outdoor programming, field trips to nature centers, summer camps, overnight trips to the forest…. And lots of music! Now I want to bring the vast tapestry of cultures and relations that I’ve built abroad back to the youth and arts community in Baltimore and beyond. And vice versa! Arts for the Culture represents my steps toward a universal call to understanding, celebration, harmony, and mutual respect for all our relations. I hope to build relations among nations, and especially among the youth, the educators, and the artists. Kathmandu World School, Nepal. June 2024
