Cycles of the body are harnessed into artistic practice, with each work created on the same day of the artist's cycle, thus with the same hormonal and energetic influences. Music, dance, ceramics, textiles and paintings created with this natural methodology are at the forefront with the community invited to take part and express their own cycles.
Cyclature comes together as an artistic practice for people who menstruate to understand, harness and create with the variable energy they have as a result of their monthly cycle. The methodology is based on understanding the different hormonal, physical, and energetic influences from each day of the cycle, and expressing that day’s energy through art. Artists create works particular to each day and work on each piece exclusively while they are on that day of their cycle. The finished body of work is an expression of a specific, focused set of parameters and the entire body of 26-30 pieces from each artist manifests a tangible representation of the varying, shifting flow of work, feeling, energy and creativity the artist experiences each day of their cycle.
Goals of Cyclature are myriad and expansive. We channel the energy and power of the cycle to bring more art into the world. We deepen each individual’s understanding of their own cycle and its influence and create more resilience and knowledge in the face of hormonal and physical fluctuations. We fuel an open conversation about menstruation and the lived experience of over half the world population as they go through this daily cycle which has traditionally been shrouded in silence, stigma, and mystery. We invite anyone to share in the experience of self-understanding and deepening intuition by working in our own methodology and we provide tools and resources for this journey of self-discovery.
