Dance Peace

Dance Where It's Most Needed

About

Peace is an embodied practice. Dance is a way forward for children living in a volatile world. Through engaging in artistic experiences with intergroup contact, social practice arts interventions inspire an ecology of peace, engagement and entrepreneurship. https://vimeo.com/163775007

We bring about social interventions that address insular or divided communities, potential or actual violence, weak interfaith or cross-cultural neighborhood bonds, and needed Track 3 diplomacy through dance and movement-based arts experiences.

We curate, design, facilitate or collaborate on projects that we theorize will have positive, urgent and relevant impact for each specific context.

Project goals: 1. Social integration of refugees, personal development, and reduction of neighborhood tension through participation in shared arts programs 2. Awareness of this work and its theoretical and research-based footings amongst practitioners, diplomats and policymakers internationally 3. Increased intercultural capacities, experience and understanding for practitioners 4. Awareness by refugees, service organizations, and cultural practitioners of the network of existing arts programs accessible to them.

This project aims to reach a number of constituents through varied activities throughout 2023/24: 1. music and dance scholarships, 2. paid teaching apprenticeships for refugee teens, 3. instructors for a special weekly dance program for unaccompanied minors, 4. public performances, and 5. pointe shoes for refugee dancers.
