Daniel Costa Dance

Providing a platform, centered around dance, for artists to be innovative and collaborative.

About

Daniel Costa Dance (DCD) believes that through collaboration, artists of various disciplines can create living work that grows and develops as each discipline informs the other; no part of the final product exists without the other. Costa’s choreography utilizes structured improvisation, alongside an athletic and highly physicalized movement vocabulary. Inspiration is drawn from landscape design, natural wonders and architecture as a reference point for spacing, direction, and pathway. Every dance focuses on an authentic approach to movement that reflects a unique physicality and articulation relatable to the concepts and research behind the work, as well as the individuals taking part in the process.

DCD aims to invigorate contemporary dance and performance in Seattle, Washington and beyond, while making dance accessible to all audiences. The company brings dance to underserved communities and anyone searching for healing through an artistic, movement practice. Community engagement is a large part of the company’s work, keeping the dancers and collaborators connected to their humanity and the world around them, allowing the company to bring dance to a wider audience.

This dance company invites their audiences on a journey of internal exploration, with the goal to leave the observer feeling empowered to embrace all that they are, and in doing so, giving them space and time to heal.
