Who hasn’t felt the weight of the pandemic this past year? Who hasn’t felt the anxiety, stress, and worry that our lives are forever changed?
Every crisis gives an opportunity for new ambitions.
During the initial lockdown, Mauricio Vera, a New York based dancer, found himself an intimate artistic refuge. Aware of the growing importance of technology and social media, he decided to explore the possibilities of creating with other artists from a distance with a dance film. The whole project took place with only inside one apartment as the stage and one cellphone camera to document the process.
Consequently, “Restless” was made and with it the drive to continue to produce short dance films long after the pandemic with other dancers from around the world. This first short film #danzarestless has already received awards such as: 1st prize at the DancinBO in Bologna Italy, the best of dance in 2020 by "El Circulo de Críticos de Arte de Chile", winner in the Prague International Indie Film Festival, short Film catalog at the Cannes film festival Marche Du film, semifinalist and nominated at nine Film Festivals in 9 different countries.
The objective is to continue producing digital dance works with the prospect of creating a hybrid and virtual dance company. The group will provide international communication between artists enhancing job opportunities as well as an enriched cultural exchange. We wish to expand the collaboration to Europe, USA and South America in order to create 7/8 short films with different cultural identities for the end of the year 2021.
The project insures artists that against future eventualities it will continue to produce remunerated material and will strive to support the art community.
When the company has reached an important amount of dance films, we plan to distribute the collection to film festivals and stream the works from private homes to online galas, theatres websites and streaming platforms.
We are Restless to create and dance again. However, to produce the highest quality of dance films, we need to adequately compensate the production and artistic staff.
All donations will be invested back into the artists in order to improve your lifestyle with our best entertainment. The objective: to constantly evolve in a creative space. Dance films have become a necessity for dancers to persevere today and to entertain 21st century audiences.
Creativity will not be threatened by these times. Art will remain part of our lives and so will dancers, choreographers, video editors and other artistic jobs fundamental to society.
We depend on your generous support to launch our digital, artistic and performative residency.
Danza Restless is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Danza Restless must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas” only and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
We need your support and without your help we cannot start this project.
We thank you in advance for your generous support - the opening date begins with you!
