DE-CONTRUKT is a design and event studio, photography darkroom, artist residency and project space located in Brooklyn and sometimes in other places. Passionate about the convergence of art and technology, communication and concept, we develop projects with local and international artists that support the cross pollination of ideas among culturally diverse artists and audiences. Our interest is in process rather than final outcomes. Artists have an opportunity to produce new works individually or collaboratively with a focus on experimentation.
The design studio at DE-CONSTRUKT works across a varied range of disciplines, from identity, branding, web and visual design.
Our event studio at DE-CONSTRUKT is available for rental and supports our programming. We host workshops, video and photo shoots as well as multidisciplinary programs including music, dance, performance, spoken word/poetry, installations, video works and the visual arts.
We also have onsite a private photography darkroom fully equipped for B&W film processing and printing. Our custom-built enlarger bay is fitted to print negatives up to 4x5 inches and provides the tools necessary to process prints up to 11x14 inches. Our photography darkroom is available for rent hourly/daily as well as for longer term rentals.
Started in 2013, our residency program invites artists, photographers, musicians, filmmakers to live, work and engage with the local community of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Residents share a beautiful spacious 2600 sq. ft. loft with beautiful skylights, a photography darkroom, art book library, wet sinks, and event space. Private fully-furnished bedrooms, one with a separate studio, with shared bathroom and kitchen.
All participants must make a public event in Red Hook, and/or work within the community. We will work with each resident to organize to assist in their work as well as promote it on our newsletter and social media.
