DICE (Ditmas Indie Comics Extravaganza) is Ditmas Park, Brooklyn’s indie comic festival dedicated to fostering local comics talent free of charge and partnering with local venues. The festival supports local comic artists through a comic reading event and a fair. We are in our third year and looking for fiscal sponsorship for 2027.
The two events are free to attend and open to the public. We hope to share a range of storytelling by artists free of censorship and rich in diversity of topics. Our work involves artist curation, administrative activities, event planning, social media, artist interviews, website management, graphic design, and illustration.
We hope to foster a larger arts community in South Brooklyn that welcomes comic artists from the global majority, LGBTQIAP+, and/or low-income, amidst a political climate that seeks to silence voices from our communities. The comics festival involves a free live comics reading evening, introducing many of the artists to the community free of charge. The reading will feature 10-20 comic artists who present works in progress or read finished comics to an in-person audience of about 35-50 people who may be new to comics altogether or currently invested in the comics community. The free all-day comics and art street fair has approximately 20-25 artists and approxiamtely 200-300 attendees. In the past We are requesting funding for administrative labor, publicity, advertising, illustration, design, artists’ table fees, printing costs, snacks, an event photographer, and website hosting. We hope to expand with workshops and printing a collection of comics by artists at the festival to hand out.
