About

DOT is a clown.  Not a "red nose at the circus kinda clown," but in the realm of the kind of work you'd see in a Charlie Chaplin film, an Emmett Kelly skit, or the work of Bill Irwin and David Shiner in Fool Moon.  I dare not compare myself to these masters, however, I do make the distinction about different types of clowns because of the pervasive and oft talked about coulrophobia - fear of clowns. With DOT, there is nothing to fear!

DOT is a zany, curious-minded, adventure seeking, scrappy, lovable, thoughtful, imaginative spirit. She finds solace in solving the plentiful challenges and disappointments of life.  In this solo show, DOT experiences being left at the altar, having and caring for a baby, seeking love, and engaging in online and speed dating fiascos.  As a clown, DOT does not speak, but in the various characters she brings to life, we witness her 'trying on for size' different personas that ultimately leave her empty and without the results she longs for.  She teaches us that living in one's own skin is necessary to live a realized, authentic life. We witness her coming "home" and understanding love in her own DOT way.

I began developing DOT in Spring 2019 as a recipient of the Hotel New Works residency at Theater Lab in NYC.  A version of DOT premiered at the Tank Theater that summer accompanying SMASHWORKS Dance Co. during the FEMPIRE FEST.  I continued to develop DOT as a character, during the early days of the pandemic, (she was the only person I quarantined with - some of you might seen the videos)  and I’m thrilled to share her solo show at Hole in the Wall Theater in New Britain, CT, summer 2022.

This year is Hole in the Wall Theater’s 50th Anniversary.  As a young budding actress in my 20’s, I was privileged to perform at this theater in so many wonderful roles. I am elated to be returning to the same stage 30 years later as a guest artist presenting DOT for (2) consecutive weekends in June.  I’m so very happy to be going home.

I am currently working with the incomparable Molly Pearson as creative consultant, Elena Zucker as script developer/dramaturg; Estelle Bajou as music composer and sound designer, and Hillary Lang as lighting designer. Additional team members will be announced in the coming days.
