About

Duo Axis is flutist Zach Sheets and pianist Wei-Han Wu. We present vibrant performances that feature traditional classical music and new, experimental works in equal measure. Our experiences as chamber musicians, soloists, orchestral players, and arts administrators inform our multi-dimensional art-making and shapes our exploration of new dialogues with audiences. Duo Axis champions the thrilling potential of authentic duo playing and the unbridled possibilities of flute and piano instrumentation. Sheets and Wu frequently work closely with composers to create new works and foster a reciprocally beneficial spirit of innovation. By focusing on a range of musics and time periods, we animate for audiences the common qualities of musical works that are, for us, thrilling.

Duo Axis began in 2014 as colleagues at the Eastman School of Music. Thanks to funding from New Music USA, we embarked on a six-city recital tour across the U.S. in March of 2016, featuring all new world-premiere commissioned works. Duo Axis has been presented by EQ Concerts (Boston, MA), Æpex Contemporary Performance (Ann Arbor, MI), the Houston Flute Club (Houston, TX), the nth degree chamber series (Cape Cod, MA), the Creative Arts Initiative (Buffalo, NY), and more.
