Duo Odéon will record a set of never-before-recorded works by the twentieth century American composer George Antheil for the violinist Werner Gebauer. The recording will include Antheil's Sonatina for Violin and Piano and Violin Concerto reduced for violin and piano by the composer himself. The third piece on the recording is a transcription by Gebauer of Antheil's score for the Ben Hecht film "Specter of the Rose" in the form of three waltz movements, "Valses from Specter of the Rose."
These three works are representative of Antheil's late style of his Hollywood years, and show a strong relationship between the composer and his muse, Werner Gebauer. The two worked closely together and the recording project aims to explore that relationship and the resulting music.
