Dyke Theater Co. (DTC) was founded in May 2024 by Artistic Director Isa DeLeón Garcia, along with four of their closest lesbian collaborators–Marvelyn Ramirez, Jaden Tyler Urso, Noma Mirny, and Liv Campbell. The creation of Dyke Theater Co. addresses a need for lesbian and trans artists to create and present theater in a safe and unapologetically queer space. A place to achieve collective liberation via the performing arts, and to create art via the power of community and embracing shared identity. Our inaugural projects were a double feature of plays at the Tank’s PrideFest, in June 2024. The split bill included "ASÍ," written and performed by Artistic Director Isa DeLeón Garcia, and "So Far Away," written by DTC Literary Director Jaden Tyler Urso. Both performances were sold out successes!
Two months after PrideFest, DTC catapulted into the Tank’s following summer festival, LimeFest, of which Garcia was the Associate Producer. The four shows we co-produced were "$7 Girl" by Mae West, "Spew’s Little Baby" by Anita Parrott, "Sam and Kiki’s Big Gay Road Trip" by Liv Campbell, and "Sublimation" by Isa DeLeón Garcia. LimeFest allowed DTC to branch out, meet new artists in our queer community, and bring together projects with like-minded missions under the DTC producing entity.
Now, we are launching a writer’s group titled "Chick Magnet: A New Play Incubator." This pilot program is an invaluable opportunity for a diverse cohort of six dyke and dyke-adjacent playwrights to refine and cultivate their individual processes by sharing work, receiving feedback, and workshopping text with actors and a director. The program will culminate in two public readings, showcasing the scripts developed over three-months and bringing together each individual artist’s communities to share in their success!
Funds raised for Dyke Theater Co.'s 2025 Season will go toward paying the executive team, paying stipends to Chick Magnet artists, reserving rehearsal and performance space, and covering company expenses. Dyke Theater Co. is founded upon historically queer principles of mutual aid and collectivity. None of this would be possible without your support -- remember: no donation is too small!
