Encoded adapts Assembly Theory—a new framework developed by lead scientists Professors Lee Cronin and Sara Imari Walker that measures complexity by examining how things are built through processes of selection and contingency—to explore how human behavior takes form throughout history. Through a custom-built simulation and a woven landscape of the United States (1492–2023), the project maps how emotional logic, historical obstacles, and catalytic events generate repeating behavioral patterns. It offers a tangible, evolving structure for understanding how identity and meaning are assembled under pressure.
