The intent of the Endangered Species Project is to change the way 'we' see and understand our impact on the environment. Making the ‘unseen’ seen, the exhibition features 1453 handmade porcelain ceramic urns, one for each endangered, threatened, extinct or recovered species in the continental United States. On the surface of each urn one of these species is carved in deep relief. Making something that is generally ‘unseen’ like endangered species become visible with such abundance, can bring attention to our current environmental vulnerabilities. Technically functional, the urns are not, however, made for daily use; they are metaphorical.
