Flutist Chelsea Czuchra finds her voice in the experimental and evocative sounds of contemporary music. Equally at home as a soloist and chamber musician, her performances span North America and Europe and include collaborations ranging from traditional flute repertoire to unconventional sound sources like scotch tape and bull-roarers. As co-artistic director of Cochlea Duo and Damselfly Trio, Chelsea has commissioned and premiered new works by leading composers including Asha Srinivasan, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, Brittany J. Green, and Luzia von Wyl.
A central focus of Chelsea’s current work is a deeply immersive, flute-centered piece combining electronics and video to explore the sonic and symbolic world of orcas. This multi-sensory performance bridges art, environmental advocacy, and real time science drawing audiences into the ecological urgency of our time. The work features music by acclaimed composer Alex Shapiro, known for her genre-defying soundscapes, innovative multimedia integration, and passionate advocacy for the arts.
The central focus unites music and environmentalism by illuminating ecological issues in the present, while also serving as a lasting platform for awareness, dialogue, and education—empowering audiences and communities to imagine and contribute to a more sustainable future.
This ongoing interdisciplinary project will be a primary artistic focus over the next several years. Development is already underway, with research, collaboration, and experimentation in progress. The first full iteration of the score is planned for 2027, marking a major milestone in a multi-phase initiative designed to evolve through future performances, educational outreach, and community engagement.
