Every year, I host a call for scores to help give selected composers from around the world one of (if not) their first premiere performances ever. Through my efforts and the sponsors I solicit for the project, I provide high quality performance opportunities, professional recordings, and amazing prizes to provide a well-rounded package for a composer being pushed away from most opportunities they apply for. Only composers who have heard 5 or less of their pieces are allowed to submit, and this initiative has already helped 14 composers refine hear a performance of their music. Nearly 400 applicants from 50+ countries have applied since its inaugural year in 2021.
This is a charity opportunity I host to provide for a community of composers not being provided for. I provide my own time as a judge, organizer, and performer completely for free, but if you believe in the initiative of my project and want to help see its longevity, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to my Evan Erickson Music initiative here. All donations funnel into this project continuing to be offered for years to come and allowing me to commission more composers, hire more professional performers, and attend more conferences around the country to inspire more performers to consider performing music by this under-resourced community of composers.
With your help, I hope to make strides in making a change in the composition landscape by making sure more resources get invested into early career opportunities for composers around the world. The music world seems to be in a circle of only offering opportunities to "the best" instead of being inclusive to everyone, and that is hindering thousands of talented voices around the world from making their impact on our music landscape.
