A piece in dialogue with the balletic narrative traditions of the past to address our parasocial present, "Faceless Cat" aims to revitalize the impact of storytelling through classical dance on the latest generations of theatre-goers. Telling the story of two real-life strangers, drawn together as they confront the beauty and horror of a terminally online existence, the ballet will hold a mirror to its knowing audience, provoking the recognition of wordless yearnings and anxieties unique to a disembodied life, articulately embodied in movement. Immersed in its deceptively simple fairy tale, viewers will be invited to confront urgent questions without answers, such as the meaning of death when all information is preserved, the nature of self when all must invest in a persona, and the compatibility of authoritarianism with the bullhorn of Internet celebrity.
