State fairs remain among the few places where people from different backgrounds, occupations, generations, and communities gather within a shared public space. Through environmental portraiture and observation, this project examines how ideas of identity, labor, tradition, and belonging are expressed within these temporary civic environments. The resulting body of work seeks to create a nuanced visual record of contemporary Southern life while preserving the stories and experiences of the individuals who make these gatherings possible.
