About

Family photos universal - hung on walls, taped to refrigerators, and cherished by grandmothers everywhere. They mark a moment in a family’s history and offer future generations a glimpse of their past. For the last three years, photographer Joey O’Loughlin, has been making and distributing classic family photos at refugee camps on the Greek island of Lesvos, in partnership with the Dutch NGO Movement on the Ground. These loving family pictures offer a stunning contrast to the desperate images of refugees consistently shown in the media. We believe that they can change minds and convince the world that refugee families would make good neighbors. In spring and summer 2021, we will present exhibits in public libraries across the Netherlands that invite people to reconsider the current refugee crisis as a movement of families looking for safe homes. There will be family photos for locals and programming to engage people of all ages. The exhibit is scalable for countries struggling with the refugee crisis around the world.
