Feels Like Home is a public-interest interior design initiative dedicated to transforming the homes—and lives—of low-income families in New York City. Led by Studio JARI, a human-centered interior design firm, the project offers free, professional design services to individuals and families who are unable to access or afford them.
We believe in the power of space.
A thoughtfully designed space can offer more than visual appeal—it can restore emotional balance, support family connection, and become a foundation for healing. But today, that power is unequally distributed. Too many families are living in transitional or neglected spaces that increase daily stress and erode their sense of dignity.
We believe that in order to unlock the true potential of design, we must first make it more equitable.
That’s why Feels Like Home exists.
Through referrals from local nonprofit partners, we select families whose living environments may be compromising their mental health, child development, or ability to rebuild. Each project is approached with cultural sensitivity, emotional care, and attention to how space can empower the people within it.
From layout planning and furniture sourcing to installation and styling, our team works closely with each family to co-create a space that reflects their identity and aspirations—using donated or low-cost materials without sacrificing quality or meaning. We collaborate with volunteers, local makers, and design professionals to bring warmth, structure, and support into spaces that need it most.
We don’t believe design should be a luxury for the few.
We believe it should be a tool for equity, healing, and change.
With every home we transform, Feels Like Home helps close the gap between design and access—offering not just a new environment, but a renewed sense of possibility.
