About

Fire in Beulah is a play, based on the award winning novel ‘Fire in Beulah’ by Rilla Askew and adapted for the stage by Tulsa native and New York theatre artist, Marta Reiman. Fire in Beulah is a theatrical experience,  a celebration of the affluence of Black Wall Street and the pioneering, industrious spirit of Tulsa’s black residents in the face of blatant and systemic racism in the early 1900's culminating in Greenwood's 1921 demise; The Greenwood Race Massacre.

Tulsa composer Chris Combs lends his jazz composition to this production and Johnny Polygon premieres a new hit song. Dance and historical photographs tell this story as well. Tulsa artists come together to create an artistically varied, historically accurate depiction of our city's history as well as the difficulties of race relations that persist today. This is an educational and healing venture for Tulsa. Donate today and join the sneak peek of 'Fire in Beulah' for our online Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commemoration along with a dialogue with a panel of local experts on the importance of Reparations for the Black community in Tulsa. Greenwood Theatrical has already received a grant from the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission but we need your help to continue being able to accurately tell this tragic and widely untold American story. Donating will go back into the community and towards producing our live stage version of Fire in Beulah.
