The First Comes Love Project’s mission is to bring visibility and acceptance to the LGBTQ community. The first phase of the project, First Comes Love: Portraits of Enduring LGBTQ Relationships focused on long-term relationships prior to the change in marriage equality laws. That project is now a traveling exhibition of photographs, stories and video. There is also a hardbound book including 65 couples with a foreword by LGBTQ icon, Edie Windsor.
The newest phase of the project, “Transcending Love,” was begun in 2017 and is a work in progress that focuses on relationships in the transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming community. Couples will be documented across the country in hopes of bringing more compassion to this community in the greatest time of need. It will also become a traveling exhibition, film and hardbound book. The first full exhibition of “Transcending Love” will be in the fall of 2019 at the Stonewall National Museum and Archives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
