Fledgling is an ongoing project designed to support and implement the legacy of Matt Kahn. For six decades, Professor Kahn was the academic director of design in the Stanford University department of Art. He was a painter, designer and teacher. Initially, there are three facets to Fledgling:
1. A monograph that features Kahn's work with an emphasis on his painting and on his unique and revered home. For the duration of his tenure this house has been an integral part of his teaching and his service to the Stanford community.
2. Making Kahn's lectures, which consist of both audio and visual, accessible to a wide range of people. They were recorded during his lifetime and since his death have been used as a teaching tool within the University.
3. The ongoing care of his fine art and elements of his design. This consists primarily of storing and curating Kahn's work.
