Flowers For Linda is an ongoing multidisciplinary project that bridges the gap between digital audio and the physical landscape of New York City. At its core, the project explores the intricate intersections of grief and it's influence on creative practice through long-form conversations and site-specific public art activations.
Grief is not a solitary event, but an ongoing creative relationship. By moving these reflections out of private spaces and into the community, we foster a collective ritual of remembrance and resilience.
Current project components include:
The "Seed Packet" Distribution: Small, tactile packets of Zinnia seeds distributed through Little Free Libraries, independent bookstores, and community gardens. Each packet features a QR code that invites the planter to listen to the Flowers For Linda audio archive while they plant—insisting on a practice of slowness and growth.
The "Wind Phone" Listening Bench: A functional public installation (proposed for sites like the Elizabeth Street Garden) that serves as a modern "Wind Phone." A QR code on the bench links to a "Voicemail Box" where community members can leave and listen to audio messages answering the question: "What is the sound of missing a loved one?"
The Community Archive: These recorded voices become a living, breathing oral history—a documentation of contemporary NYC folkways around mourning and creative survival.
Your tax-deductible support through Fractured Atlas directly funds the materials for these community activations, including bulk seeds, sustainable printing, and the construction and maintenance of public listening stations. Together, we are planting flowers and stories, ensuring that the people and places we lose continue to have a sound and a space in our city.
