About

The Public Theatre of Greensboro was founded as a nonprofit corporation in North Carolina in 2024. The Public Theatre of Greensboro believes that theatre in its most brave and excellent form feeds the public soul. By producing theatre in its most brave and excellent form, The Public Theatre of Greensboro will celebrate and honor Greensboro’s broad cultural community, will create an operational model that cares for everyone collectively and individually, will provide for the public welfare, exceptional theatre performances and cultural offerings that are only possible in the South, and rely upon the creative and exciting ideas of the public in equal measure to those of our experts. We do these things to preserve the sacred art of theatre and provide the most sincere expression of love for and to our neighbors.
Before we produce our first professional play in 2026, the Public Theatre of Greensboro is raising awareness, creating community and raising funds through a partnership with the Continental Club. The Public Theatre is hosting monthly cabaret performances featuring local actors who sing, and perform monologues and a 10-minute play. The ensemble for the cabaret is intentionally diverse in age, race and institutional connection. Cafe Cabaret opens at the Continental Club on April 11, 2025.
