About

PRISON FROM THE INSIDE OUT: One Man's Journey from a Life Sentence to Freedom, is a book about the experience of an African American man who spends more than 20 years in the North Carolina prison system. William "Mecca" Elmore is charged with murder in the first degree during a trial in which he is the only witness for the defense.

The book has been developed using oral history to give the reader an intimate connection to his life, his family, the people who support him in prison and provide a foundation for hope.

Simone is a photographer and writer. My work, Doc-u-Art, focuses on social issues in the communities where I live and work. I see myself as a translator; using words and images to explore larger issues through individual stories. I work with photographic collage, larger projects in which each work or image has a narrative component.
