My dear friends,
I’m a Jewish video maker in a very unique niche. I grew up in the Satmar Hasidic community. I left when I was 25 and a young mother. I rebuilt a new life with my son. I now am a content creator. I do short and long form videos, in-depth interviews, video essays and tours, and food content.
Much of my work comes from a deep place in my soul. A place borne out of my very long winded life journey. I aim for my content to bring more understanding, to challenge myself and others, to document, to be a voice of compassion. I think my work is valuable.
However, making these videos is very hard. I spend so much time negotiating access to community’s at which I’m ostensibly an expat. Most days, I get nos. I walk a fine line of asking religious people to share themselves on my platform, while my platform is that of an ex-religious woman. While I have been welcomed in some places with much work, it’s been a lot of back end hard work and a lonely road. I am also left shouldering pretty much all of the financial burden. Orthodox Jewish businesses have never sponsored me, understandably, as they might not want to get mired into any controversy with an ex hasidic channel. On the other hand I have not had success in finding any other sponsors. Meanwhile, creating these videos costs many times more than YouTube pays in ad revenue for a small channel like mine.
If you are able to contribute to my work, it would go a very long way to help. Fractured Atlas is a special organization that allows Artists and Content Creators to fundraise money as a not-for-profit (they are a not—for profit and collect the money, and then send it on to me, taking a small fee). The advantage is that this counts as a tax deductible donation (in the US, I don’t know about elsewhere.) If you do tax-deductible giving, please consider making my channel a part of that. Your support is so very much appreciated. So very much.
With many thanks,
Frieda
