Funny Movies is the fundraising tag for tax-deductible donations for the films of Madeleine Olnek. She wrote and directed the first-ever on-screen portrayal of a queer Emily Dickinson. “Wild Nights With Emily,” which premiered at SXSW, had a theatrical run across North America, and was picked by Rotten Tomatoes as one of the top ten "Best Comedies of 2019." She served as the sole juror for the NEXT Section of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.The film is based on recent, ground-breaking scholarship on Emily Dickinson and includes Dickinson's letters and poems. Olnek’s feature film debut “Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same” (available on Amazon) premiered at Sundance and had a theatrical run. Two of her earlier short films, “Hold Up” (www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW6XPUC7nqg) and “Countertransference” (www.youtube.com/movie?v=EkwnQJCmjw8&feature=mv_sr) were also official selections of Sundance and toured theatrically. Her second feature "The Foxy Merkins" played at Sundance, the Moscow Film Festival, had a theatrical run at IFP, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit award. Donations here will go towards finishing costs of the current feature-length project.
