Mission: Leading innovative art that promotes the well-being of our planet.
Future Cosmos Flow is a multi-medium project that includes a 30-minute hybrid narrative film and a series of elaborate textile art sculptures and costumes, featured in the film. The costumes are worn by award-winning performers, and set in motion through dance.
Film’s Logline:
A precocious girl's mysterious grandfather spins a fantasy tale that comes to life about a ruling matriarchy thrown into chaos by a dangerous rival, placing the balance of nature at stake.
Future Cosmos Flow is about the epic struggle between fire and water as encapsulated in myth, dance, costume, and natural beauty; that tells a dynamic origin story during a time of climate crisis.
Director’s Vision:
When my father passed away in 2014, I wanted to create a film that transformed my grief into beauty, and offer inspiration to our world during these chaotic times. Even deeper to the meaning and significance of the film, the Taiwanese grandfather reading this story to his granddaughter, a second-generation Taiwanese-American, was inspired by the familial stories my Taiwanese immigrant father told me as a kid.
At the heart of this story is my love for the element of water. I have a lifelong connection with water that has impacted my life. In Future Cosmos Flow, I convey water as an other-worldly and powerful force that transforms pain into beauty. Inspired by the origin stories of ancient cultures and their respect for nature, I aim to show the relevance of these myths in our modern times, especially the subject of climate crisis.
We filmed Future Cosmos Flow on location all over the Pacific Northwest, where I’ve lived for the last fourteen years. It’s a treasure with some of the most stunning water landscapes in the world. It’s my goal to inspire my audiences and rekindle our relationship with Nature.
Future Cosmos Flow is currently in the production/post-production phase. The film is slated for completion in January 2025 and will screen at film festivals and special events. The sustainably made costumes will be exhibited in galleries/museums accompanied by the film's screening.
