About

Generation Music founders Chloe Cooper and Claire Casanova were faced with a harsh reality in their city. Music education is underfunded or not available in the public school system in the city of Philadelphia. After joining Project 440, a Philadelphia nonprofit, in November of 2017, the two learned entrepreneurial skills as well as public speaking, musicianship, and community engagement. One of Project 440’s programs, Doing Good provides training and guidance to high school music students who want to positively impact their communities. Doing Good became the catalyst for Generation Music. Applying all of our knowledge from Project 440, Generation Music aims to provide classical music education to students in the School District of Philadelphia to further diversify professional orchestras. By visiting schools across the city, Chloe and Claire give short lessons for young students to easily understand the basics of classical music. Chloe and Claire have visited three schools throughout Philadelphia and plan to continue visiting schools in the future. The decided to create Generation Music because they wanted children to have the same musical opportunities as they did growing up with music.
