About

Genesis Valley is a survival thriller in the vein of – if we do it right – Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, Trey Edward Schultz’s It Comes at Night, and Jen McGowan’s Rust Creek. It’s about the apocalypse – the practical and moral challenges presented by a collapsing ecosystem. The plot is simple, stripped-down by design. Our main characters, Shelby and Clarke, a married couple living, as best they can, in a small town all but abandoned after an environmental catastrophe, meet fellow survivor Mandy, and form a tenuous family unit. Later in the film, Mandy is attacked by a member of The Hive, a vicious gang of marauders, and kills her attacker. Knowing the gang will seek revenge, Shelby, Clarke, and Mandy flee their shelter, with The Hive hot on their trail. Genesis Valley imagines not only the practical challenges of living in a crippled ecosystem, but the moral and spiritual challenges that desperate circumstances present. While we will actively avoid making a preachy, scolding, “message film,” we do aim to make a film with a noble and meaningful message, inspired by deeply personal fears. We’ll employ a cast and crew of Philadelphia-based artists and technicians, pay them a generous wage, and provide food and lodging for the duration of the shoot. While we’ll utilize a portion of funding for filmmaking equipment, the better part of your contribution will go to payment for our actors and crew. It’s an expensive proposition, making a movie, and that’s why we’re asking you – our friends, our family, our co-workers, the members of our community – humbly, to contribute to our fundraising campaign. Genesis Valley is a culmination of our artistic obsessions, and, in a practical sense, a wildly ambitious project for us. Making this film will be a dream. Thank you for helping us realize it.
