The Greater Impact House is about developing ground level awareness for creatives towards Urban renewal in Detroit.
When producer and composer
Alexander Vlachos (Greater Alexander) experienced suicidal thoughts because of his depression, he says creating his music saved his life.
This project is geared towards established artists that are focused on creating artwork and music without the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or any other mind altering substances.
Paying it forward, he rescued an abandoned house blocks from the Motown Museum in Detroit, to make it an artists’ residency and creative hub for established musicians and artists to flourish physically and mentally.
“Our unique goal for Greater Impact House is to provide a space free of the influence from vices like alcohol, cannabis, gaming, gambling and more, so artists have a cathartic experience with their authentic selves while creating their art,” said Vlachos.”
Vlachos and partner Karianne Spens-Hanna, who has a Masters in Art Therapy and degree from the college for Creative Studies in Detroit, are busy fundraising to complete renovations to the 3,600 square foot house, built in 1911. Plans are also being made to convert the first floor to adapt to the needs of disabled artists, with the help of John Katona at GM Able.
The Greater Impact House will help establish organization and structure to each artist's daily living routine. We will offer value by providing a therapeutic and safe environment for creating art and music. We find by practicing daily healthy routines, artists achieve a greater impact in their creativity, community and improve overall wellness with how they approach their craft.
Recent crowdfunding raised more than $10,000, and funds were used to rehab the roof and some plumbing and electric. In January 2023, The Greater Impact House project was awarded a $15,000 grant by Community for Southeast Michigan Foundation
https://cfsem.org/. Funding will go towards completion of the Front Porch and accessible entrance. The goal for completion of the porch and ramp is Spring 2024.
This project is established by Greater Alexander of Greater Records, LLC. It takes one house at a time, and this Greater Impact House project is working to improve a parcel of Detroit and the quality of life of others by doing what Greater Alexander does best, crafting music with connection.
