I've been painting since 1995 and have always had a love for art. Born and raised in New York City gave me the opportunity as a child to go to museums with my parents and discovered varied cultures. When I graduated from both art and fashion school in the early to mid 90's, it was difficult for me to get a foot hold in the arts industry. I worked wage jobs to buy supplies and work on the floor of my bedroom in the public housing apartment I grew up in, in Harlem NYC. Although inspired by many black artists of the Harlem Renaissance era and at the time, I couldn't seem to get a grasp on success. I created a solo show of 32 pieces in my first series, Afro Dimensionalism in 2004. A series of mixed media abstract works that convey my thoughts about heritage and culture with poetry written on the back of each canvas about the piece. Supported by family and friends but my biggest regret and mistake was not marketing to gallery owners and to come and see that's the one thing that art school does teach you. So my work went unnoticed and till this day.
I'm currently restructuring my efforts to develop an art studio gallery in my own backyard of the house I share with my dad in order to get the recognition I need to succeed. My ultimate goals are to create a larger working studio and gallery for local and regional artists to build a community of artists supporting one another and an art school for kids and teens. I want my legacy to be a hope for the future. I want my work to be seen and not forgotten.
