About

GROUND SERIES uses performance to practice place-based justice by cultivating accountability to land, body, and history.

Performance:

GROUND SERIES performances use post modern dance, clowning, performance art, interdisciplinary scholarship, and social practice to diagram the complexities of our social political moment.  The works are tender, relentless, funny, compositionally dense, and honor discomfort and failure.  GROUND SERIES site-specific performances endeavor to forge relationships between the people making the work, the people experiencing the work, and the place where the work is made.

GROUND SERIES asks:

What does it mean to be HERE, in my body, inside of a moving and relational practice for slowing down and listening in?

What does it mean to be HERE, now, in my body, inside of a historical-political reparations practice?

What does it mean to be HERE, in my body, inside of the greater ecology?

Practice:

GROUND SERIES understands each gathering as a new opportunity to create a microcosm of what we hope for the world. As a collective, we engage in an ongoing practice of developing intersectional anti-racist praxis, not only through our artistry, but through operational and producorial justice.

Programming:

Our community programs work to create multifaceted access into dance making as social justice driven research.  Our site-specific/body-based/anti-racist pedagogy works to welcome young people, audiences, neighbors, and site stakeholders in order to ask: “What work can we do together, here, today?”
