About

About
Founded in 2024, HALA Collective empowers queer and trans artists to create anti-colonial, liberatory work while ensuring equitable pay and support. We stand against oppression, amplifying voices silenced by Zionism, Hindu Nationalism, and police violence. Rooted in transparency, compassion, inclusivity, and anti-racism, we build community through art, resistance, and solidarity.

Our members
We are a collective of 34+ artists from around the world (primarily based in the Bay Area, with members in New York, Paris, and Istanbul) practicing art through comedy, writing, drag performance, music and poetry. The majority of our collective are people of color and we’re 100% queer and trans activist artists. Some of our notable Members are Zi, Linda Summers, June, Jonathan Randall, Dragon King (Milo), Mudd the Two Spirit, Saffron Reign, Ari, King LOTUS Boy, xxHardeepxx, and others.

Our work
  • Salon HALA: Inspired by the dynamic art salons of Paris, Salon HALA brings together open discussions, live performances, and community connection. In 2024, we hosted four salons, with the latest held at the iconic BRAVA Cabaret Theater. Our events have featured powerful voices like the Phoenix Project, Sad Francisco, and leaders from activist movements.
  • Cabaret Palestina: A bold variety show spotlighting queer artists and activists who reject colonialist funding. Our first Cabaret, held during SF Pride, was a counterprotest fundraiser supporting artists boycotting the festival due to its ties to union-busting and pro-Israeli organizations.
  • Vocal A.F.: A vibrant monthly open mic that’s free to the community, showcasing queer and trans artists of all ages, art forms, and languages. Hosted by Zachary Kloes at Queer Arts Featured (located in the historic Harvey Milk camera shop), Vocal A.F. is a celebration of diverse voices.
  • Pink Wash: Launched at El Rio on 9/7/2024, Pink Wash is a queer party that unites artist-activists for a night of celebration, resistance, and joy, featuring local performers and DJs.
